It's no secret that Barcelona have spent big for some years and have failed miserably.
Barcelona have been linked to a few players recently, so let's dive in and see if they make sense from footballing point of view.
1. Neymar- Yes, Bartomeu has ruled it out but what was the reason of wanting an irregular and clearly undisciplined player, even though he has a plethora of talent ? He is 27, he has already peaked and won't play half as good as he used to. It was clear to many cules but the board wanted make a marquee signing. Not particularly Barcelona like is it ?
2. Lautaro Martinez- A brilliant player and Messi himself compared him to Suarez. This is huge, but we need to understand that he is going to cost Barca north of 100 million Euros. This amount of money cannot be spent on a striker right now. We have a couple of positions which need to be dealt with before that and a hundred million just because we want to win the Champion's League when Messi is here ? No. It's primarily because Bartomeu wants to have a Champion's League under his belt before the elections. All of this after letting Carles Perez go to Roma ? Not acceptable.
3. Eric Garcia- A brilliant center back and a player who shares a motherly bond with Barcelona, this is getting good. Reports suggest that he will cost around twenty million Euros, which is justifiable to anyone who has seen him play. He has a towering presence, composure and technical ability of a midfielder (As almost every La Masia graduate has) He will be a great addition to the squad and he can, according to me, take Pique's place.
4. Guendouzi- This is getting hilarious now. Guendouzi for Coutinho. Are the board here to make us laugh ? Even if he was a good player, he has many negatives to his side. First of al, he is not disciplined. Then, he plays in midfield, defensive midfield and that position is not vacant, contrary to that, we have four holding midfielders already. Busquets, De Jong, Pjanic and Monchu. And arguably, even Pjanic is better than Guendouzi. I do not see a meaning to it.
5. Willian- Yes, Willian is a brilliant player, he may be coming on a free transfer, but I do not think this is correct. First of all, he is going to demand a great amount of salary which is not sensible to give to almost certainly a benchwarmer. And that would almost certainly create a sense of uneasiness in the dressing room and that won't be great.
However, we must acknowledge that the board is slowly getting what the fans want. They have signed players like Pedri, Trincao and promoted players like Riqui Puig and Ansu Fati (That's due to the Manager)
